The kids were ready and excited to go back to school after our way-too-short-and-fast summer. I am never ready for them to go back even though it's nice to have our routine back. I really wish they would go back after Labor Day. It is still super hot here and there would be plenty of time left to go to the pool and hang out---such a bummer they go back to so early! Ellie started 3rd grade with Mrs Urbanek and Jack went back to Pre-K with much of the same class from last year but with a new teacher Ms Julie. We are really happy with both teachers and looking forward to a great year! I can't believe next year Jack will be starting kdgt. Let the waterworks begin :( Here are 1st day of school pics:

Wow!!! Did I ever get behind on this blog this summer. In a nutshell our summer was fun but super busy---hence the lack of posts. I feel like we never even got into the "groove" of summer and it was ready to start preparing for back to school :( Our summer ended with our vacation to California to see my sister and brother! We had planned the vacation over the summer when we found cheap flights from KC to LA and spent a great week in CA! The trip did not start well as Jack decided that it would be fun to be sick when we were traveling. He came down with a cough the day before we were leaving and by the morning of our trip he was not doing well. I tried to get him into the dr before we were leaving at 9:30am to make it to KC for our flight but couldn't get him in ( I even drove to the office and just went in hoping they could squeeze us in but they couldn't so I left in a not-so-very-good way--oops!) Our neighbors were kind enough to loan us their nebulizer which is what I thought he needed but it turned out to be a weird stomach- flu type thing. The poor kid was so sick. He got sick before we left, then proceeded to get a little sick in the car on the way to the airport and by the time we got to KC he was not doing well. Well low and behold he threw up ALL over the KC airport----yuck!!! A worker even slipped and fell in it while I was finding someone to clean it up---it was awful. He proceeded to throw up once more on the plane but then after that he seemed better and by the time we arrived in LA that night he was better----def not the way I would have wanted to travel but it could have been worse I guess. No one else got it and he was fine the rest of the trip---praise the Lord!! We spent the majority of our time in CA at Laguna Beach which is very close to mys sister's house. The kids loved the beach/ocean--especially Ellie! She literally could have spent all day every day riding the waves and playing in the ocean. Jack wasn't so in love with it but enjoyed being on the beach and running from the waves! We spent 6 out of our 7 days there :) I had a ball watching the kids playing and running in the water. We had a boogie board for Ellie but the waves were pretty strong so she really ended up not using it much---she preferred just running and jumping into the waves on her own. We did spend one day at Disneyland which was fun. We had breakfast with some of the characters and then spent the day riding rides and watching parades. Both kids really enjoyed it! My sis and brother in law and brother and his friend were able to join us so we had a full crowd! Dave wasn't able to stay for the entire trip because he had to get back to work so the kids and I stayed a few more days and hung out with sis and brother and then I flew back alone with the kids. They did pretty well on the planes but got owly at the end! Here are some pics from our week in CA:
