Weekend Fun!

We had a great weekend after a busy week. I forgot to mention in the last post that Ellie and Jack both had their Open Houses a their schools on Thurs night. I always kind of "dread" going to Open House because it is so packed with people but then once I get there I always enjoy talking with the teachers, seeing the classrooms, etc. Ellie was so excited to show me (Dave was gone so he missed it) her classroom. This year they don't have their own specific desk because they are switching classrooms with another teacher for science and social studies. So her teacher gave each student a "cubby" that is theirs to keep their supplies , etc in. I think it works much better for Ellie because from the looks of her desk last year it is very difficult to keep her desk organized :) So they keep all their stuff in a small drawer and take it out as needed. Then they have a massively crowded book fair in the library which we always go to and and buy a couple of books and stand in line for 30 min to pay for it! But Ellie loves it so it makes it worthwhile! I really love our school! This year was Jack's 1st open house at his school because he didn't start last year until mid February. It was so fun going to his school (which is much smaller than Ellie's) and see him in his classroom. He is so proud of it and loves his teacher! He was so proud showing us his centers and all of the toys he plays with. He read us his daily schedule and I literally had a tear running down my face thinking back to last year at this time when he wasn't even saying 10 words--wow how much can happen in a year! Praise the Lord!! His teacher is so sweet and just loves Jack! So after a busy night we were on to a busy weekend. My sister Linda was still in town for work so we were lucky to get to spend some of the weekend with her before she flew back to CA yesterday. On Friday night Ellie and I went to the Rose Theater with our good friends/neighbors Christy and Emma to see "Ferdinand the Bull". This is the 2nd year that we have split the membership with them and it is wonderful. We figure that Jack is still a little young to sit through the plays so we only need 2 tickets and they are in the same boat so we just split the cost and get 4 tickets for all of us---quite a deal! I love the Rose Theater and this it is such a little gem in our city. Saturday was so fun! It started with a 9am soccer game for Ellie in the cold, misty fog. Her team played awesome and has definitely become a great group of girls who play really well together. Then Dave ended up taking Jack to his 1st Husker game so Ellie and I could hang out with my sister and mom. According to Dave he didn't like it at first and was asking to go home but somehow ended up liking it and they stayed the entire game (NU vs Washington). I'm sure it had nothing to do with all the snacks he got :) He loved when the balloons went up in the sky after the 1st touchdown. While the boys were at the game the girls went to lunch at Cheeseburger in Paradise , Ellie and Linda got pedicures and then we shopped around Village Point. The weather was so cold and damp but we still had fun. Ellie talked her aunt into buying her a couple of things at Justice so she was very happy. We are so blessed to have such great aunts and uncles on both sides of the family. After shopping we went back to my parents for dinner. Dave  had to drive staight home from the game because Jack was conked out before they even left Lincoln--it was a long day for the little guy. We were sad to say goodbye to Linda because this is not her year to come home for Christmas--they will spend it with Doug's family in PA--so bummed :( It's so hard to have my siblings all live so far away. Sunday was another cold and rainy day. We went to church and then Jack's friend Lucy had her bday party at Saddlebrook Community Center. We all went to that and then Ellie and I were supposed to go fishing with her Brownie troop but we ended up rescheduling because of the weather. So the kids played at the bday party which was perfect way to run off steam on a cold day. After that we decided to that it was a good movie day so we rented Rio and lounged in the basement watching the movie. The kids thought it was great because we got pizza for dinner and let them eat in the basement which we never do! A great end to a great weekend! Now I'm getting geared up for another busy week!
